Kate was born in Hollywood but spent her time growing
up in Colorado after her parents divorced eighteen months
after she was born. She was raised by her mother Hollywood
Academy Award-winning starlet Goldie Hawn and her mothers
longtime boyfriend actor Kurt Russel of 28 years.
Having a famous mother and actor Kurt Russel, Kate was
always around Hollywood but was never a part of it until
her big break in 2000 when director Cameron Crowe cast
her as Penny Lane in the fictional rock movie Almost
Famous that soon launched Kate's famous
career.
Kate's
role as the rocker groupie hippie chic in Almost Famous
earned her a Oscar nomination and she won a Golden Globe
for best supporting actress.
Kate
graduated from Crossroads, a performing arts school in
Santa Monica, in 1997. She was accepted to New York University,
but chose to pursue an acting career instead of attending.
Early in Kate's career she worked really hard to stand
out on her own as a actress and did not want to be associated
with her famous parents. It was very important to her
that she landed roles because of her acting abilities
and not because her mother is Goldie Hawn.
Kate's first roles in film began in 1999 for Gossip, a
teenage drama, and 200 Cigarettes. It was the following
year in 2000 when the rock film Almost Famous exploded
Kate's career.
Kate's
rock n roll life on the big screen later became reality
that same year when she married Chris Robinson, the frontman
for The Black Crowes. The two divorce in 2007 citing irreconcilable
differences.
Kate's
next successful film was How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days,
a romantic comedy, that became a big success at the box
office, grossing over $100 million after its February
2003 release.
In
2005 Kate wanted to take a different approach to her acting
when she stared in the scary thriller The
Skeleton Key.
It was a role that she had not played yet, she wanted
to show a different side to her than the romantic comedys.
The
following year she went on to co-star with Owen Wilson
and Matt Dillon in the successful comedy You, Me and Dupree
.
In
2008, she took on another challenge as she was certified
in scuba diving in the Great Barrier Reef for underwater
scenes for the movie Fools
Gold which she co-stared with leading
man Matthew McConaughey.
She continued as the queen of romantic comedys as she
went to films, My Best Friend's Girl and last months release
of Bride
Wars
. Later in the fall of this year
Kate with co-star with a huge a list cast such as Daniel
Day-Lewis, Penelope Cruz, Nicole Kidman and Judi Dench
in the highly anticipated movie musical Nine.
Her
career has been a huge famous success since her break
in Almost Famous. Later this year we will see yet another
side of her as she sings on screen. Kate has shown show
many sides to her acting and still dazzles with that Hollywood
charm, that original Hollywood glamorous sense of style
