Penelope Cruz
Growing
up in Madrid, Spain, Penelope had a lot of energy as a
child, so her parents wisely signed her up for ballet
classes when she was four years old. She studied classical
ballet for ten years at Spain's National conservatory.
As
she began her teenage years the long spent hours of dancing
lost it's charm. So at the age of 14 she began working
on films, she found a lot of magic in acting and completely
fell in love with it.
At the age of seventeen,
Penelope hit the Spanish film spotlight with the steamy
film Jamón Jamón and then went on to the Oscar
winning (Best Foreign Film) Belle Époque and All
About My Mother. Penelope is a supermega star in Spain
with more than twenty films to her credits. She also has
won two Spanish Goya movie awards equivalent to the American
oscars.However it wasn't until 1998, in the movie The
Hi-Lo Country, which she had her first staring english
speaking role.
Penelope once said, "Hollywood
didn't come knocking at her door, I looked for it."
Since then she has gone on to do large-scale Hollywood
productions with Tinseltown's most popular leading men.
Her most recognizable films in America include, All
the Pretty Horse with Matt Damon,
BLOW
with Johnny Depp, Captain Corelli's Mandolin with
Nicholas Cage, and Vanilla
Sky
with Tom Cruise which was a much
publicized 3 year romance.
Penelope
has been criticized for her relationship romances with
her Hollywood co-stars, her lasted romance love interest
is also her last leading man co-star Matthew McConaughey.
Penelope's
last film was the action thriller film Sahara
which she co-stared in with Matthew
McConaughey and later this year they both will be in a
romantic drama called The Loop. Her newest film is titled
Bandidas which she co-stars with her best friend, latin
beauty Salma Hayek.
Penelope
has been on countless magazine covers over the past years,
including People magazine's Fifty Most Beautiful People.
She is a model for Ralph Lauren and is currently promoting
the designer’s fragrance Glamorous Penelope spends her
free time doing charity work in Calcutta, India, through
a Spanish organization called the Sabera Foundation.
She
is known in North America for more acting roles from the
typical pop culture block buster movies. In time we know
that we will see her take on more of the serious dramatic,
emotional, and heartfelt movies roles as she has done
in other countries that has made her such a award winning
actress. However though, for now Penelope is a super celeb-star,
with her acting and modeling career even such a huge star
that she already is, in many ways this us just the beginning
of many new things to come from her. She's a star already,
and just think about it, there is still so much more to
come from her !
