Cruz
Growing up in Madrid, Spain, Penelope had alot of energy
as a child, so her parents wisely signed her up for ballet
classes when she was four years old. She studied classical
ballet for ten years at Spain's National conservatory.
As
she began her teenage years the long spent hours of dancing
lost it's charm. So at the age of 14 she began working
on films, she found a lot of magic in acting and completely
feel in love with it.
At
the age of seventeen, Penelope hit the Spanish film spotlight
with the steamy film Jamón Jamón and then went
on to the Oscar winning (Best Foreign Film) Belle Époque
and All About My Mother. Penelope is a supermega
star in Spain with more than twenty films to her credits.
However it wasn't until 1998, in the movie The Hi-Lo
Country, which she had her first staring english speaking
role.
Penelope
once said, "Hollywood didn't come knocking at her
door, I looked for it." Since then she has gone on
to do large-scale Hollywood productions with Tinseltown's
most popular leading men. Her most recognizable films
in America include, All the Pretty Horse with Matt
Damon, Blow with Johnny Depp, Captain Corelli's
Mandolin with Nicholas Cage, and Vanilla Sky
with Tom Cruise whom are now a couple since his divorce
with ex-wife Nichole Kidman.
Penelope
has been on countless magazine covers over the past years,
including People magazine's Fifty Most Beautiful People.
She is a model for Ralph Lauren and is currently promoting
the designer’s fragrance Glamourous. She has a new movie
coming out Masked and Anonymous and spends her
free time doing charity work in Calcutta, India, through
a Spanish organization called the Sabera Foundation.
