Mariah
Carey
The
world knows Mariah Carey as the biggest selling female
artist of all time, and soon she's going to take over
as best selling all-around artist of all time.
Mariah's
story begins when she started singing at age 3. Her
father is Afro-Venezuelan, and her mother Irish. Her
parents slit up when Mariah was 3 years old.
Mariah's
mother is a trained opera singer and started giving
Mariah singing lessons at the age of 3.
Since
Mariah was a lil girl she was always wanted to be
a star but she has always suffered from low-self esteem
and was a little self self-consciousness about her
looks. After graduating from high school Mariah moved
to New York to attend beauty school and work on her
music. While is New York she came friends with keyboardist
Ben Margulies, with whom she began writing songs.
Mariah
became a studio back up vocalist for dance-pop singer
Brenda K. Starr. It was at a party when Brenda K handed
Mariah's demo tape to Columbia Records head Tommy
Mottola that would soon begin Mariah's Cinderella
story.
On
the way home after the party Tommy Mottola listened
to the tape in his limo, after hearing the tape he
immediately asked the driver to head back to the party
so he could look for Mariah.
Mariah
sign to Columbia records entered the studio to begin
work on her 1990 self-titled debut LP; the heavily
promoted album was a chart-topping smash, launching
no less than four number one singles: "Vision
of Love," "Love Takes Time," "Someday,"
and "I Don't Wanna Cry." Her overnight success
earned Grammy awards as Best New Artist and Best Female
Vocalist.
In
1991 she followed up on her second album Emotions,
and it was a record breaking success with five consecutive
chart topping number ones.

In
1993 Mariah married Tommy Mottola who was 20 years
her senior. Later that year she released her 3rd album
Music Box, which spawn number one hit singles, "Dreamlover"
and "Hero." At that time Mariah had released
3 number ones albums and a MTV unplugged CD, while
having never toured any concerts yet, something that
was never heard of before.
In
1997 Mariah and Tommy Mottola separated and she launch
her album Butterfly which was a another side of Mariah,
now a more mature personal album.
As
the years went on Mariah continued to rack up more
number ones. After leaving Columbia records she signed
a 80-million-dollar deal with Virgin Records, it was
the biggest record contract ever. In 2001 she experienced
a very public personal and professional meltdown.
Record and movies sales from movie Glitter did not
do so well and in 2002 she and Virgin Records parted
ways.
Since
then Mariah has continued to work hard and take time
being herself. Her eleventh and newest CD E=MC²
was launched on April 15. The single Touch my Body
was pre released in February has already had many
number ones and is still on top of the charts.
Mariah
has also been keeping busy up coming new movie projects.
She has two new movies Tennessee, which has already
garnered her decent reviews on the festival circuit,
and a cameo in the Adam Sandler vehicle You Don't
Mess With the Zohan.
Her
success has been sky rocketing and she has just been
named one of Time's 100 most influential people in
the world, not to mention her recent marriage to 27
year old actor- rapper Nick Cannon.
